A highlight of the Oxford Prospects Short programme for overseas university students is our concerts, which showcase short works of Western and Eastern classical and folk music.

The concerts have run regularly since Winter 2015, and have provided opportunities for a large number of exceptionally talented students from China and from Oxford to perform. We are pleased to run the concerts in association with Wolfson College Musical Society, meaning that we can benefit from the splendid surroundings of the Leonard Wolfson Auditorium.

Highlights of the series so far have included:

  • classical and modern works for traditional Chinese instruments including guzheng (zither) and xiao (bamboo flute)
  • solo and chamber works by Beethoven, Brahms, Vivaldi and others for instruments including piano, strings and clarinet
  • songs from European operas and English and Irish folk music.

Our visiting students have included a number of highly accomplished calligraphers, who have created beautiful artworks during the concerts, inspired by the music.
